Brunch review: Nº 32 The Old Town, SW4

Go: for a hungover, weekend brunch

Eat: Nº32 Eggs Benedict with honey roast ham, avocado and spinach on sourdough with homemade hollandaise

Pay: Between £6 -12 for a main, £3 for a hot drink. Splash out an extra £9 for a breakfast cocktail (it’s worth it).

There’s a lot of eating places on and around Clapham High Street, which is why Nº 32 feels a little bit like a hidden gem, tucked away around the corner of the common. Just a short five minute walk from Clapham Common tube, Nº 32 The Old Town is an ideal spot for brunch to recover from a heavy night out in Infernos (or a heavy night in with a bottle of red).

When the weather’s nice, the best seats in the house are out on the terrace for an alfresco breakfast overlooking the common. Start with hair of the dog and invest in a yummy brunch cocktail. You could go for a traditional Bloody Mary, but the Earl Grey infused Tanqueray gin, lemon juice and elderflower cordial, served long with lemon and mint is seriously fresh.

The all-day brunch menu isn’t extensive, but I could have happily eaten everything on it. You’re bound to find something that takes your fancy, whether it’s a breakfast sourdough bruschetta (with tomatoes, spinach, avocado, shaved bacon and breakfast mayo) or ricotta pancakes with poached apricot and mascarpone.

The whole place is kitted out with the cool Clapham crowd in mind. The decor is minimal yet exciting, and stylish without feeling polished. If you’re waking up in Clapham, it’s the perfect place to wile away the morning after the night before.
